Description

Stuart Farrell was commissioned by Bracewell Stirling Architects in October 2012 to undertake an archaeological evaluation for a housing development with associated access to a site southeast of Tulloch Castle, Dingwall. The work was carried out by Pete Higgins of Archaeology North Ltd on behalf of Stuart Farrell. A total of 8 trenches or 487 m² were excavated, representing 7% of the development area (not including the northern or southern strips). Few archaeological features or deposits of interest were found; a land drain ran parallel to the site boundary in the northeast, and an undated linear feature of loose stones and uncertain function, but possibly related to land clearance in antiquity, was identified beside a pronounced slope running across the centre of the site. No further archaeological work was recommended. <1>
