Name:DBA and walkover survey - proposed Melness Community Wind Energy Project
Organisation:David Lynn
Date:July 04-Sept 05

A walkover survey was carried out over three visits by D Lynn in July 2004 and June and September 2005 in advance of a proposed wind energy project at Melness Estate, West of Kyle of Tongue. The additional work was undertaken to include emerging permutations of the project design for the turbine construction and ancillary development features. A small number of previously unrecorded archaeological sites of local importance were identified, most of which lie outwith the proposed development area and so would not be impacted. Two exclusion zones were recommended close to the off-site access track to ensure protection of sites. Other archaeological recommendations include a watching brief for ground breaking for the turbine sites, crane pads, access track, cable trenching and the substation. Lastly, a mound of uncertain origin which lies within the off-site access track route should be investigated ahead of any development to establish its potential significance. <1>

The fieldwork report was submitted in its entirety in an environmental statement submitted to support a planning application.
