Full Description

An enclosure and, on the opposite bank of Allt Iariaridh, a short length of wall are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1874, sheet liii) and on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1992).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 22 May 1996

The enclosure was visited and photographed by Highland Archaeology Services in 2012 during a walkover survey in advance of a proposed hydro-electric scheme at Allt larairidh, Glenmoriston. The walls of the enclosure were found to be more substantial than expected. It was noted that on the OS 1st Edition map the enclosure is shown attached to an east-west dyke running alongside the river and part of this could still be seen. The possible footings of a former cottage attached to this which had been eroded by the river were also seen. It was judged that the features probably related to C19 estate control of fisheries along the river and were highly unlikely to be earlier in date. The enclosure would not be affected by the proposed development. <1>
