Full Description
Two pits, apparently unrelated to any structure and associated with burning were exposed during excavation by Headland Archaeology in 2005 at Culduthel and interpreted as hearths. Both features were found in the northwest corner of Area B. Pit 275 was circular and lined with large sub-angular stones that had been used as a setting for a fire. Charcoal was abundant in the two fills of the hearth. Pit 673 was oval and contained an abundance of heat-fractured stone and charcoal although a stone lining was absent. <1> See also MHG49950 for the Iron Age hut circle settlement and metal working area.
Further analysis and final dating of the finds assemblage and general site are awaited.
