Full Description

A shed and the remnants of at least two enclosures at Fiskavaig, near Carbost. No evidence for any of the structures exists on the 1881 1st Edition OS Map, but the 1903 2nd Edition OS Map shows a large enclosure (this is not visible today) with the north-west corner containing two smaller enclosures and three buildings. These buildings do not at first appear to be in the right location to suggest the shed is one of them, but the 1968 5th Edition map contradicts this, and it may be that the 2nd Edition is merely somewhat off-set, in which case the enclosures and shed are present by its publication date. The assertion that the structures are enclosures is not assured; they may have originally been buildings, possibly steadings.

A photographic record was carried out by Dorothy Morrison in February 2012 as part of a condition on a planning application to demolish the enclosures and shed in advance of a new house and access road being built. The site was heavily overgrown with bracken, and not much is visible from the photographs. <1>

Note: It is not impossible that the 1st Edition map may have missed structures if conditions at the time of the map's creation were similar, and so a definitive C20 date cannot be assured for the enclosures at least.
