Full Description

A decorated LBA socketed axe was found on 'the Sutherland - Caithness border' in 1961. (The map sites the find to approximately the Melvich area. (NC 88 64).

This findspot was noted during a 2010 DBA and walkover survey by S Farrell in advanced of a proposed woodland creation scheme. It was noted that the above grid reference may be incorrect. <2>

There is a decorated socketed axehead from Sutherland listed in the NMS catalogue under Acc. No. DE 125 which may be this axehead. It is described as a bronze socketed looped axe with a square socket and moulding outside of four graduated raised lines. <3>
