EHG2818 - Geophysical surveys - High Pasture Cave site, Isle of Skye

Technique(s)

Organisation

Stratascan Ltd

Date

Dec 2004

Description

In December 2004, Stratascan Ltd conducted a geophysical survey in relation to the core of the archaeological site at High Pasture Cave, to answer specific research questions. A range of geophysical techniques was employed, including resistivity, magnetometry (gradiometry) and Ground Penetrating Radar. In particular, the surveys were carried out to investigate the potential for a former, and now buried, entrance into High Pasture Cave that may have been utilised in prehistory. Unfortunately, the ground conductivity survey could not be carried out due to severe weather conditions experienced at the site in December. <1> The results of the survey were subsequently included in the 2004 DSR for the High Pasture Cave site. <2>
