Technique(s)

Organisation

AOC (Scotland) Ltd

Date

December 1995

Description

A walkover survey, preceded by limited desk-based assessment, took place in advance of proposed forestry management measures. After a preliminary inspection of the survey area an appropriate strategy was decided in consultation with Historic Scotland. All open or unplanted areas were traversed at regular intervals and all features noted and described. Unrecorded features were mapped using an EDM on a local grid. Known sites within planted areas were inspected and recorded. Six archaeological sites or groups of features were recorded by the survey including cairnfields, abanonded farmsteads, a hut circle and two possible shieling structures.
