EHG3212 - Watching brief - land at Upper Cullernie, Balloch

Technique(s)

Organisation

Stuart Farrell

Date

Nov 2009-March 2010

Description

Following a trial trenching evaluation which encountered various difficulties, a watching brief took place during site clearance in advance of a housing development. A number of features were revealed including several hearths and other pits of probable prehistoric origin. A palaeochannel was also noted in the eastern part of the site. There was no evidence of a putative ring cairn that had previously been recorded in this area. Further post-excavation work will take place to analyse and date the samples taken from the features. <1>
