EHG334 - Walkover survey - Dunvegan pre-afforestation

Technique(s)

Organisation

Martin Wildgoose

Date

Feb 1997

Description

A walkover survey was carried out by M Wildgoose in 1997 of four areas of proposed afforestation to the east and south-east of Dunvegan around Ben Aketil, Skye. It was considered that, given the area surveyed (2.6km²) that a total of seven new sites was very low. It was thought that this reflected the nature of the ground covered, whch in the main was very wet with a heavy peat overburden. One site in particular, site 4:1, was seen to be dipping below the peat, perhaps hinting that more sites survive beneath the peat cover. <1>
