Date

Description

A digital photographic record was made of the Clachnaharry Lock and Clachnaharry Sea-lock at the northern end of the Caledonian Canal by Highland Archaeology Services Ltd between November 2004 and January 2005 as a condition of Scheduled Monument Consent for major maintenance and repair works to the locks. Visits during the works took place on 16/11/2004, 29/11/2004, 10/12/2004, 22/12/2004 and 15/01/2005. In both locks, the quality of the stonework of the lock chambers was noted. The recording programme was considered well worthwhile and it was recommended that archaeological monitoring and recording should be continued as further maintenance work progressed. This should include further general photography to record the canal structures and features and their condition before renovation, and document the progress of the project. <1>
