Date

July 1998

Description

The Cnoc an Laoigh survey area covers roughly 130 ha of land on the north-east shore of Loch Shin, 19 km north-west of Lairg, Sutherland. The survey area comprises the western end of Cnoc an Laoigh, a low hill which rises to 190 m. The western limit of the area is marked by the River Fiag which flows into Loch Shin at the south-west corner of the survey area. The slopes of Cnoc an Laoigh are covered by wet heath and bog over shallow peat with occasional drier rocky knolls, particularly on the summit; the land is currently used as rough pasture for sheep. The ground conditions for field survey were good with low vegetation over the whole area. <1>
