Description

An archaeological evaluation and watching brief on excavations at Balmoy, near Aviemore, were carried out by Northlight Heritage to compliment the construction work schedule, between 7th and 10th. September 2015 ahead of cable undergrounding works, on behalf of Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) Ltd. A number of features of probable post-medieval origin, including post-holes, ditches were found, in addition to examining deposits directly related to an in-situ lime kiln. One provisional phase of activity has been identified as a result of these excavations. This is defined by the presence of a lime kiln situated on the steep sloping, south west facing embankment. The Lime kiln is thought to be post medieval as are the various features and structures in the immediate vicinity. <1>
