EHG5530 - DBA and site visits - Beauly-Keith OHL reconducturing

Technique(s)

Organisation

CFA Archaeology Ltd

Date

April 2018

Description

A desk-based assessment, augmented by targeted field visits to heritage assets within a 500 m study corridor centred on an existing OHL carried out by CFA Archaeology in 2017, formed the study area for appraising the likely impacts of the proposed Beauly to Keith 132 kV OHL reconductoring project on archaeology and cultural heritage (hereafter ‘heritage assets’). All known heritage assets (recorded in the relevant Council Historic Environment Records or on Canmore) within the study area were identified. In addition, previous archaeological interventions (events) (including watching briefs, evaluations and excavations) undertaken within the study area were recorded to provide background information on the potential for the survival of buried archaeological remains along the OHL route. Targeted field visits were made in April 2017 to ten cultural heritage assets that lie within 50 m of the existing OHL, where either the current baseline condition was uncertain or where the site was considered to be particularly sensitive. The field visits were undertaken in order to record the character, extent and current condition of each asset, and assess the potential impact of the proposed reconductoring works on each asset. <1>
