Description

A desk based assessment and walkover survey were carried out by West Coast Archaeological Services in 2019 on behalf of Ardnamurchan Estate and Kirn Limited in advance of a proposed native woodland planting scheme and associated works along the upper section of Glen Ockle, Ardnamurchan, Lochaber. The walkover survey recorded a total of 8 archaeological sites comprising a total of 11 individual structures. These included a sheep fold, turf and stone dykes representing small field systems, and shieling structures relating to transhumance activities in the landscape, that were possibly used during the droving of livestock between different communities and to markets. <1>
