EHG5717 - DBA and walkover survey - proposed HVDC Switching Station, Noss Head

Technique(s)

Organisation

Mott MacDonald Ltd

Date

Sept 2019

Description

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were undertaken by Mott MacDonald Heritage Team in 2019 to record the presence or otherwise of heritage assets within the development area of the proposed Caithness (Noss Head) HVSD Switching Station and to and assess the proposed development site in terms of historic environment potential. The survey was conducted in a systematic manner by a member of the Mott MacDonald Heritage Team on 17th September 2019. Weather conditions were bright and sunny throughout and the visit was recorded through a detailed photographic record. No heritage assets or archaeological remains were recorded during the walkover survey, with the appearance of the landscape indicating it had been ploughed. This would have had a detrimental impact on any archaeological deposits should these exist within the boundaries of the site. The DBA indicated the former presence of a post-medival farmstead within the site boundary. Archaeological mitigation measures were recommended. <1>
