Description

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were carried out by West Coast Archaeological Services in 2021 in advance of proposed woodland creation projects at Torr a’ Bhalbhain and Torcuileainn, Kilchoan, Knoydart. The work was undertaken to assess the nature and extent of any archaeological sites likely to be affected within the areas outlined for planting and regeneration and to inform recommendations for the protection and management of any sites recovered. The surveys identified 42 sites of archaeological interest including shielings, pens, enclosures, boundary walls, field systems, boulder shelters and a monument. Mitigation measures were proposed to safeguard the sites during the establishment of the woodland creation projects. <1>
