EHG5854 - Trial trenching - proposed quarry extension, Carn Dhomhnuill Bhain, Dalwhinnie

Technique(s)

Organisation

Stuart Farrell

Date

June 2021

Description

An archaeological trial trenching evaluation was undertaken by S Farrell in 2021 of land at Carn Dhomhnuill Bhain, Dalwhinnie, as part of a project for an extension to the reopening of a former quarry. Work involved evaluation by hand of three earthworks. This revealed them to be: One a rubbish mound, the second the remains likely of a toilet, and the third the remains of a hut of corrugated-iron and wood. All likely date to the 1940’s or 1950’s and relate to the use of the site as an observation post. No recommendations for further archaeological work are proposed. <1>
