Technique(s)

Organisation

AOC Archaeology Group

Date

July 2022

Description

A 7% archaeological trial trenching evaluation was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2022 on land at Drum Farm, Drumnadrochit, in advance of the construction of a new housing development with associated infrastructure. The evaluation was required as part of a planning condition. A total of 27 trenches equating to 1,550 linear metres of trenching was achieved. Some c.45 pit and posthole features were encountered across the entirety of the development area in distinct clusters. They showed clear signs of domestic and industrial activity with prehistoric ceramic recovered and metalworking evidence identified. Further archaeological works will be required within the proposed development, in the form of a watching brief on ground works in the north of the site and a strip, map and sample exercise in the south and east where archaeological evidence was found to be most concentrated. <1>
