Description

An archaeological trial trenching evaluation was undertaken by Stuart Farrell in 2021 on land at New Fleenas, Nairn as part of a project for a new house and garage. The site lay in an area of an improved field. Six trenches were excavated using a 8 ton back-acting machine with a 1.8m wide straight-edged bucket under direct archaeological supervision. Trenching was proposed to be conducted to 7% of the area of the proposed development. Topsoil was removed to an average depth of 0.3m, the greatest depth being 0.4m with shallowest being 0.25m. The fieldwork revealed no archaeological features or deposits. No recommendations for further archaeological work were proposed. <1>
