Date

Oct-Dec 2000

Description

A geophysical survey was carried out by GeoQuest Associates in 2000 on an area on the south side of Lochloy Road, Nairn, in advance of a proposed housing development. Thirty-three survey blocks were selected for detailed survey following a preliminary rapid magnetometer scan aimed at locating zones of potential archaeological interest. However, the initial scan was unable to rigorously identify subsoil features of archaeological interest. The survey blocks were positioned to provide a maximum 15% sample of the development area, which was designed to progress in eight phases. A number of significant anomalies were detected, including a possible silted ditch and a possible enclosure or oval barrow. <1>
