Organisation

Centre for Field Archaeology, University of Edinburgh

Date

February 1998

Description

The excavation of a cairn by CFA was undertaken during February 1998. The excavation was based on the results of a previous evaluation. Both projects were commissioned by Historic Scotland on behalf of the National Roads Directorate, to be completed in advance of proposed road improvements to the A86 between Aberarder and Rubha na Magach. The objectives of the excavation were to open a trench around a cairn identified during an evaluation and to excavate and record the cairn as well as any further features identified within the excavated area. Work started on 20th April 1998 in fairly dry, but overcast, weather conditions. A trench measuring approximately eight metres by six metres was opened over the cairn that had previously been identified. <1>
