Full Description

A salvage excavation was carried out in Sept. 1995 on what had previously been described as a cairn of stones. Part of the feature had been disturbed by ploughing in 1992 and a sherd of pottery was discovered by the farmer and was identified by T.Cowie, NMS as Early Neolithic in date. Excavation revealed a stone filled pit c 0.5m in diam. It is hoped to get a C14 date from the charcoal fragments found in the fill. Two other stone filled pits in the vicinity suggest this may be a post pit.
