This quarry, which is situated in Camster Forest 250m E of the Lybster to Watten public road, was probably opened in the late 1970s/early 1980s to provide gravel and stone for roads within the woodland. The quarry is not shown on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix) and it is not visible on an RAF vertical aerial photograph taken in 1946 (106G/SCOT/UK.76 print 3269). Irregular on plan, the quarry measures about 65m from N to S by 55m transversely and up to 4.5m in depth on the E.
