Full Description

NMRS Report: (18/05/2006)
ND34SW 344 ND 32501 42024

Nothing is now visible of this well, which is depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1907, sheet xxix) some 280m NW of Field farmsteading. Its site lies in the E corner of a triangular field and is now occupied by a disused sheep dip enclosed by a post-and-rail fence. The dip comprises a sunken stone trough with a concrete ramp on the W. The trough measures 2.5m from E to W by 0.8m transversely and at least 0.5m in depth; it is currently full of water, and covered over with a rusty oil drum and a flagstone. The concrete ramp, its surface incised with a herringbone pattern of grooves, measures 2.5m from E to W by 2m transversely and it slopes up gently down to the W end of the trough.
