Full Description

NMRS Report: (21/11/2005)
This site was recorded here during a detailed archaeological survey of Strathmashie Community Forest near Laggan, Highland. The survey was carried out to assess the evidence for past human use and to ascertain whether there was enough archaeology to develop a heritage trail in the forest.
The remains of a farmstead were found here, comprising several buildings and features, now split by a more modern forestry track. There are the remains of a building, 12m x 3m, with drystone walls. A small shed stood nearby until recently, leaving a small rectangular hollow or platform. There appears to have been a small vegetable plot, were the cultivated soil means different vegetation grows compared to the surrounding soil. The remains of an apparent trackway, 4m wide, are now truncated by the more recent trackway. To the W is another building, 11m x 6m. The walls are heavily collapsed and nearly all turf-covered. A small, derelict wooden bridge crosses over a stream and nearby is a small cairn, 4m x 3m.
