Thurso, 10th June. The BURGH CASTLE (sch.), of Lynn, Preston, from Banff, in ballast, parted her anchors this morning off Castlehill harbour and was driven on the Dunnet sand: she is likely to be got off again. The GOOD INTENT (sloop), of Kirkwall, Rendall, went ashore at the same time and place as the above vessel, but is likely to become a total wreck.

Scrabster, 22nd June. The BURGH CASTLE (schr.), of Lynn, Preston, from Banff, in ballast: which was driven ashore on the Dunnet sand 10th June, and the GOOD INTENT (sloop), of Kirkwall, Rendall, which also went ashore there at the same time, have been sold by auction.

NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 11255).

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. The Dunnet Sand or Sands are not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map; thename presumably applies to the extensive area of sands that is depicted around the SE end of Dunnet Bay. Castlehill Harbour (ND16NE 41.00) is at ND 1980 6861,
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), possibly on account of her successful recovery.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 14 December 2006.
