Full Description

A pair of grassed-over stone buildings were seen during a rapid walkover survey by M Wildgoose in 2002 in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme at Valtos by Staffin, Skye. They lay by the fence in the southeast corner of the proposal area. These two buildings lay on a north to south axis and consisted of a round ended long-house which measured 15m by 6m over walls which had spread to 2m wide. Attached to the east side of the northeast end of the long-house was a second structure, lying on the same axis, which measured 8m by 4m over walls that had also spread to 2m wide. A small corn-drying kiln, circa 1 m diameter, lay within the southern end of the second structure. <1>
