The structure was investigated in 2015 as part of the ARCH project 'Invergordon in World War I'. During WWII heaters were needed to pump oil uphill from the port to the tanks at Inchindown. Several survive, including this one, tucked away behind a pedestrian gate from Joss Street, and now covered in vegetation. It is fenced off in its own enclosure. <1>
