209173 930832 Loch an Achaid Mhor GS080: The hut circle was visited by A Welti, G Sleight and members of Historic Assynt in 2018 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross. This was part of a degree course overseen by Aberdeen University. This circular stone structure is in good condition. It lies on a moderate slope in hilly and rocky terrain and is surrounded by some clearance cairns and signs of vegetation change. The landscape vegetation is predominately heather with areas of bracken and grass. Inside the structure vegetation is mostly bracken with a small amount of grass and heather. There are panoramic views from the site in all directions. Looking to the SW the mountain Quinag can be seen. The site is at a distance of 100m from both a stream and from a fresh water lochan. The HC platform is on a natural terrace dug into and built out from the slope. The average inner diameter is 12.85m, outer diameter is 16.0m. The double skinned wall is 1.4m thick with maximum height 1.4m. There is a probable entrance facing SE, with external passage width 1.5m, internal width 2.9m and passage length 1.7m. Some wall facings and the ring bank are clearly visible. The structure is submerged by bracken. There is a later ruined shieling tumbled against the inner wall in the SW quadrant. <2> <3>
