Full Description

There have been a number of assemblages submitted to Treasure Trove from metal detecting near Dornoch in areas known as Sunnybank, Balloan, Burghfield and Achinchanter. A general findspot record has been created for this material with a marginal grid reference. TT Nos. are given below and the assemblages have all been allocated to Inverness Museum. For more detailed information about the assemblages and more detailed GRs, Treasure Trove and Inverness Museum should be contacted. <1> <2> <3>

TT36/95: A Roman Trumpet brooch. See MHG14573.
TT 38/97: 2 Roman Trumpet brooches. See MHG22707.
TT 152/97: MD assemblage medieval and post-medieval metalwork containing pins, brooches, buckles, pommels, toy horse. Listed under Acc. No. 1998.027. Inverness Museum contains documents in their archive files relating to this assemblage. See MHG33349 for the toy horse.
TT 153/97: MD assemblage medieval and post-medieval metalwork containing brooches, buckles, pin, mirror case, keys, book clasp.
TT 114/98: MD assemblage of Medieval and post-medieval date: 2 broken annular brooches; book clasp; trade seal; a pommel; a bodkin and an enamelled mount. Listed under Acc. Nos. 2001.021.001-025. TT 64/98: A assemblage of 68 objects of which 61 objects were not claimed. The 4 objects which were claimed comprisea lead alloy seal matrix, a copper alloy ring, an annular brooch, all medieval and a knife pommel, 16-17th century. These are listed under Acc. Nos. 1999.094.001-004. Inverness Museum archives files contains a list of the objects in the original assemblage.

Metal detecting at Dornoch has produced a huge amount of material over the years.
