Full Description

A hut circle at Torr Mor (Torr Garve).

NG74SW 9 7138 4302.
A circular stone-walled hut measuring 9m internally with the inner face of an otherwise scarcely discernible wall clearly defined. It is crossed by a later wall against which small structures have been built. Entrance not evident.
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (J M) 4 June 1974.

171396 843008 Torr Garve 6 HK014: The hut circle was visited by A Welti and H Keino in 2010 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross. This was part of a degree course overseen by Aberdeen University. This HC is set midway between the Torr Garve cluster to N and the Torr Morr cluster to W. It sits on fairly level ground at the foot of a steep W facing slope. A possible sheep pen has been built inside the HC and a heather covered field wall crosses it. Heather surrounds the HC and bracken covers most of the inside, marking the circle clearly in the landscape. A slab lined 'bowl' against the N outer face may be a later kiln. Measurement of the inner diameters was not possible, the outer diameter was irregular due to the later structures with an approx average of 10m. HK014 is at a distance of 70m from HK019 (see MHG), 400m from HK013 (see MHG57811), and 500m from HK015 (see MHG). <1> <2>
