Full Description

Hut Circle (NR)
OS 6"map, (1964)

On the hillside above the enclosed land is a group of about a dozen small mounds, of which one or two have been excavated.
RCAHMS 1911, visited 1909.

Hut circle discovered and surveyed at 1:2500.
Visited by OS (W D J) 3 April 1962.

Situated on the summit of a low hillock this oval stone-walled hut of simple form measures about 8.5m NW-SE by 7.0m NE-SW internally within a wall spread to about 2.0m. The entrance is in the SE. All details of construction are obscured by peat built-up. There is no cultivation around the hut but on gentle SE-facing slope to the SE, at NC 912 077, is a small well-defined field system 2.5 hectares in extent. Several irregularly-shaped field plots, 30m by 20m average size, are evident delineated by stone clearance heaps and occasional lynchets. Visited by OS (J B) 8 December 1975.
