The township of Kilmory comprises the remains of sixteen buildings and a burial-ground (NG30SE 1) ranged along the W side of Kilmory River; the buildings vary in size from 3.5m by 2.7m to 10.5m by 3.5m within thick drystone walls. Around the township there are extensive traces of rig-and-furrow cultivation. Kilmory is depicted on Blaeu's Atlas in the 17th century.

Undisturbed cleared settlement with an unusual street system. There is a sunken road which has buildings on either side, to the north of the churchyard. At the south of the site there are two buildings associated with some enclosures. To the SW of the cluster of buildings are two sets of footings defining the location of a former bridge across the Kilmory river.

To the north of the township, at the mouth of the Kilmory River, on a grassy terrace, is a sunken, rectangular feature which may be a well.

Six roofed, fifteen unroofed buildings, five enclosures, some field walls and a head-dyke are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire, Islands of Rum, Sanday etc., 1879, sheet lx). Three roofed, nine unroofed buildings, some enclosures and field walls, and a head-dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1975).

This township was surveyed by RoCAS and WCAS in 2012 on behalf of Scottish Natural Heritage. There were many buildings, dykes, and enclosures noted, among other features, in proximity to St Mary's Burial ground. For individual feature descriptions, please see report. <3>
