Full Description

During a watching brief on the construction of the new access road and contractor's compound for the Noval Windfarm by J Wordsworth in 1996, the remains of three roundhouses and associated clearance cairns were found. Although not actually mentioned in the report a linear feature, possibly the representation of a dyke, is shown on Figure 14, on the southeast side of the monitored area. <1>

Linear features in this general area are visible on vertical APs taken in 2008.

The heather and moss covered stone and turf dykes or banks were noted and recorded during a walkover survey by RoCAS in 2013 in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. They were spread up to 1.5m in width and stood up to 0.3m in height. Some stone was visible. They were of unknown date. <2>
