Boat of Garten Community Timeline

ARCH logoARCH Community Timeline courses provide an overview of local heritage, and then allow participants to research a site, building, feature, find, placename traditions or any other aspect of their local heritage which is of interest. In many cases, this results in new information, photographs or updated references for the HER. In addition, each course produces a local display and a binder with extra information.

Further information about the Community Timeline courses can be found on the ARCH website at www.archhighland.org.uk/community-timelines.asp.

The Boat of Garten Community Timeline course delivered a great deal of valuable new information for the HER. This included many new entries for sleeper-built buildings in the Boat of Garten area, for example Balblair, the largest known sleeper-built building in Boat of Garten. Also recorded was an unassuming dilapidated timber structure next to the railway line that is actually a "permanent way bothy" dating from the 1860s.
