EHG3466 - Desk based assessment and walkover survey - proposed Cambusmore substation
Technique(s)
Organisation
Highland Archaeology Services Ltd
Date
Feb-Mar 2011
Description
A rapid desk assessment and walk-over survey were carried out to identify sites and features (including Scheduled Monuments) that might be affected by the construction of a new electricity substation at Cambusmore, Sutherland. Four alternative sites were checked to assist in site selection and design processes. This forms part of the Archaeological Heritage Impact Assessment for the Beauly to Dounreay 275kv Line Phase 2 Reinforcement Project.
No archaeological features were noted in the accessible areas. Two of the areas were densely planted and inaccessible but due to previous forestry ploughing it is believed that any archaeological sites would have been severely damaged. <1>
A revised and slightly expanded report was received in May 2011 and replaces the previous version linked to this record. <2>
