Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Scotia Archaeology in 2011 during the excavation of a trench to accommodate an underground power supply near Clachan Parish Church at Applecross, Wester Ross. The trench was located just outside a scheduled area and, although Scheduled Monument Consent was not required for the excavation, the proximity of the trench to a site of archaeological and historical significance did require the work to be carried out under archaeological supervision. The machine-dug, Z-shaped trench was approximately 35m long overall, 0.3m wide and 0.5- 0.6m deep. No features of archaeological interest were uncovered within the trench and no artefacts predating the late C19 were retrieved. <1>
