Description
A desk based assessment and archaeological watching brief was carried out for Calum Ross in relation to the development of new house sites (planning reference: 16/00764/FUL) at land to west of 4 Caroy, near Struan, Isle of Skye (Figures 1; 2). The development site consisted of a tract of rough pasture land with the remains of a stone built structure – most likely a byre. Additional upstanding archaeological features including a small stone-revetted platform (possible a hayrick stance) and a small stone clearance cairn were recorded outside the confines of Plot 1.
The archaeological watching brief was carried out on 20th February 2019. The house site within Plot 1 and a part of the access track was stripped and no sub-surface features were identified. Survey of the byre, stone-revetted platform and stone clearance cairn were also carried out. <1>
