Description

Highland Archaeology Services Ltd, acting on behalf of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) commissioned P Higgins of Archaeology North Ltd to undertake archaeological watching briefs in 2013 during works related to the Beauly-Mossford OHL replacement project in the area of Towers 86-97. Three areas of work were undertaken which entailed watching brief during the construction of new access tracks at Allt Fionnaidh, Corry Wood and Dunmore. Before work began on the construction the tracks, buffer zones were marked off around the known assets; a watching brief was conducted whenever the track works approached or impinged on the buffer zones. Only those features near the track routes were recorded. Several land drains, dykes, tracks and clearance cairns were found, mostly associated with known heritage assets of the C19 century, although traces of earlier cultivation were noted. <1> The works are included in a report providing an overview of the whole Beualy-Mossford OHL project. <2>
