EHG6058 - Trial trenching - housing development, Teandallon, Evanton (Phases 2-7)
Technique(s)
Organisation
AOC Archaeology Group
Date
April-May 2023
Description
An archaeological trial trench evaluation was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2023 ahead of the remaining 6 phases of a proposed housing development at Teandallon, Evanton. The requirement arose as the development site has the potential for buried archaeology. A total area of 3,850 m² was excavated under direct archaeological supervision, forming a 10% sample of the remaining undisturbed areas. One archaeological feature was identified during the evaluation. A well-preserved fire-pit at the western end of Trench 18 occupied a central location on the upper flood-plain of the River Sgitheach the location of which will not be impacted upon by the current development. No further archaeological mitigation is recommended across the primary phases of development. In the event of any and all groundworks taking place outwith the defined construction phases, an an archaeological watching brief is recommended. <1>
