Description
A Heritage Impact Assessment was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2023 in advance of the submission of a planning application for the development of a Waste Transfer Station in the industrial area of Inverlochy, Fort William. The proposed development lies within the designated Battlefields of Inverlochy I (BTL34) and Inverlochy II (BTL24).
The Heritage Impact Assessment was undertaken with particular focus on the potential for direct and setting impacts upon the battlefield sites. They are both considered to have high sensitivity due to their designation status. It was considered unlikely that there would be a direct impact upon the evidence associated with the battlefield sites due to previous disturbance. The impact to the setting was deemed Negligible due to the extremely limited change to one portion of one view which dis not have a bearing on the ability to understand or appreciate either Battlefield. The resulting impact was therefore considered minor and did not warrant further mitigation beyond the design considerations already incorporated into the proposed development. <1>
