EHG6109 - DBA and walkover survey - proposed Abhainn Dubh Wind Farm

Technique(s)

Organisation

LUC (Edinburgh)

Date

Feb-Oct 2022

Description

A heritage assessment, which included a desk-based assessment and walkover survey, was undertaken by LUC in 2022 of the construction footprint and selected heritage assets within the overall site and site visits to selected assets in the Inner and Outer Study Areas of the proposed Abhainn Wind Farm near Evanton. Visits wer made in the February and October that year. Weather conditions during these surveys were mixed, but visibility was generally good. The walkover survey targeted the construction locations within the site. It allowed for the verification of known heritage assets, confirming their interpretation, location, and likely sensitivity to change, and informed the assessment of potential effects on those assets. Selected heritage assets beyond the Site were also visited to confirm their setting and inform the assessment of change to that setting. During the walkover survey a group of related earthworks comprising a farmstead and its associated enclosure boundaries were identified within the enclosed moorland to the south-east of the site. This previously unrecorded heritage asset (WK-1) was included in the assessment. <1> The survey and wider assessment were used to inform the project's Environmental Impact Assessment. <2>
