Description
Two phases of archaeological watching brief were undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2023 on GI works n order to facilitate the development of a proposed new distillery in Ferintosh on the Black Isle. These was carried out pre-planning in line with best practice. The first phase of watching brief took place on the 5th July 2023 in dry, sunny conditions with occasional showers. Twelve test pits were excavated within which only one feature was encountered and recorded. This feature was the edge of a stone filled field drain in the north east edge of test pit 4 and was not considered archaeologically significant. The second phase watching brief of GI works was conducted due to changes in the design. The watching brief took place on the 12th September 2023 in bright sunny conditions with occasional periods of overcast with light showers. No archaeological features were uncovered. No post-excavation archaeological work was recommended for the GI Phase of the project. <1>
