Date

Description

An archaeological desk-based assessment, walkover survey and photographic survey were carried out by West Coast Archaeological Services in 2021 in advance of the proposed demolition of an existing building and erection of a new dwelling house at The Barn, to the sourtheast of Inverie, on the Kilchoan Estate, Knoydart, Lochaber. The work was undertaken to assess the nature and extent of any archaeological sites or features likely to be affected within the areas outlined for the proposed development and to inform recommendations for the protection and management of any sites recovered. The Barn structure was located on the top of a prominent spur extending SSW to NNE from the general slope of the hill, with the ground falling away fairly steeply to the WNW, NNE and ESE. Located on this prominent platform with extensive views over the surrounding landscapes, no additional upstanding structures of any note were observed. <1>
