EHG6493 - Watching brief - new house, Holm Mills, Inverness

Technique(s)

Organisation

AOC Archaeology Group

Date

Sept 2025

Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Grouo in 2025 ahead of the erection of a house on land adjacent to Holm Mills, Inverness. The requirement had arisen as a condition of planning permission as the site had the potential for in situ remains to survive below ground. The whole of the footprint for the new house was excavated to the surface of the underlying superficial geology, including an extensive buffer on the western, northern, and eastern sides. This revealed a surprisingly shallow topsoil and only one possible feature, which was thought to be natural in origin. As the associated septic tank was already in place, no requirement to monitor works for this connection was agreed with HCHET. No further archaeological works were recommended. <1>
