Date

Description
A walkover survey was undertaken by Headland Archaeology in 1998 of some 78 ha of land in Glen Beag, Glenelg, adjacent to the two Historic Scotland guardianship brochs at Corrary. It included the floodplain on both sides of the Abhainn a' Ghlinne Bhig and the hillside to the north of the brochs roughly up to the 152m contour, but also including the entire course of Alit a Bhruic. As a dyke and a shieling were discovered just outside the suggested survey area, the survey area was extended to include these sites. The area was systematically walked by a team of two archaeologists and all features of archaeological interest were identified and described. The features were located using a Total Station working on an arbitrary grid tied in to local mapped reference points. A total of sixteen features, or group of features, of archaeological interest were recorded. The two brochs under guardianship (Site no 2 and 3) and the Corrary township (Site no 16), were not investigated during this survey but were included in the report. <1>
