Full Description
NH69NE 11 centred 665 987.
At NH 6661 9877 and NH 6642 9871, on a S-facing hillside, are two hut circles (A and B respectively). Both huts are heather-covered and ill-preserved.
'A', on a slight rise, measures approximately 9.5m by 8.0m within a wall reduced to a rubble spread at most pronounced 2.0m broad and 0.2m high. The entrance is in the SE, on the line of the long axis.
'B', built up on and set back into the slope, is reduced to a platform measuring some 9.0m NW-SE by 8.0m. There are no other surviving details. Contemporary land use is denoted by a scatter of field clearance heaps on the down-slope S from hut 'A'.
Surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (J M) 29 August 1980.
DBAs and walkover surveys were carried out by CFA Archaeology Ltd in November 2002 and April 2003 in advance of a proposed wind farm development at Cambusmore Estate, near Bonar Bridge, Sutherland.
Site 18: Occupying an exposed plateau on a south-facing hillside is a roughly circular, turf and stone bank defined hut circle c.8m in diameter, corresponding to NMRS site NH69NW 1.1a. The hut is built on an artificially levelled platform with a revetted apron forming the south side. The banks are eroded and up to 3m wide by 0.3m high. An entrance is visible in the SSE and appears to be aligned on a prominent, pointed earth-fast boulder 20m to the SSE. <1>
