Full Description

NH69NW 1 60 99.

The island in Loch Laro (NH 60 99) was considered recently to be artificial.
F O Blundell 1913.

There is now no trace nor local knowledge of an island in Loch Laro. Visited by OS (A A) 6 November 1969.

NOTE: NGR is only an indicative centroid in the loch.

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey was undertaken by CFA Archaeology in 2017 of the proposed Garvary Wind Farm development site.

Site 13: There are no clear indications on any aerial photographs to suggest an island in Loch Laro although there is a small promontory off the south shore at the east end of the Loch (261320, 899133) that has a circular terminus ca 15 m in diameter and another larger promontory at the east end of the Loch. Field survey found no indication that either of the promontories noted on the aerial photographs could be construed as constituting an island as described by Blundell and no evidence at either location to indicate any structure on either promontory. <1>
