Full Description
NH73NW 42.01 7155 3609.
This is a well preserved military bridge, built of stone with a single arch. It is complete apart from the fact that there is only one course of stones remaining above the arch ring. There are no signs of crumbling or loose blocks on the underside of the bridge, which seems fairly solid. The bridge platform has been laid out with a gravel surface. The bridge, which appears to have been quite well maintained and has possibly even received some reconstruction, appears to be of 18th century date according to its shape and type of rough stone construction, and is described as a Wade bridge on a sign 1km to the S.
J B Salmond 1938; M Logie (Highland Council) 1997, NMRS MS 1007/2.
A proposal for scheduling was received for comment from Historic Scotland in August 2006. The bridge was subsequently scheduled in March 2007 and removed from the statutory list of buildings in July 2007. <1><2>
In 2009 Forestry Commission Scotland commissioned C Shepherd to undertake a survey and assessment of those parts of the 18th century Military Road network crossing the National Forest Estate in Inverness, Ross & Skye, Lochaber and North Highland Forest Districts, in order to enable it to develop sustainable management strategies.
During the survey of Moy, this single-span bridge was recorded and photographed. It was in very good condition along with this section of military road. <3>
